We arrived down a muddy road to find the spot where we were instructed to park our car hidden under three feet of heavy ice/snow. Where the driveway to the cabin begin we could only guess. We parked on the road next to what looked to be a clearing in the trees and I strapped on my snow shoes and backpack and hiked in. About 1/4 mile in through a tunnel of evergreens and birch trees the little cabin sat perched on an 85 foot cliff overlooking the sea. I was nervous, how was I going to get Amber (who had no snowshoes) and all of our stuff in here in this deep snow? What if the icy sleet that started up half an hour ago got worse? What if i couldn't get the ancient wood stove to work? What if we weren't tough enough for this after all? But, I was beaming. This place is so beautiful it is hard to comprehend. There are moose tracks all over the property and the snow glistens. It is SO quiet. The little stream where I scoop up pails of water is hung with icicles. The water is delicious.
